A new endeavour by a passionate, Torontonian family who live near Queen (reine) and Pape - thus the clever name. A very bright, aromatic and lifted nose on this peppery southern French syrah. Smoky, earthy with a touch of brett but mostly spice, garrigue and lots of regional typicity. Very edgy, wild, forward and quite compelling with a finish of very good length. Tasted September 2013 - 88
With all the lifted mincemeat, rosemary, cinnamon and clove atop the blackcurrant fruit could only be a syrah-based red from the south of France. There is a funk factor that will draw battle lines. Its fairly deeply coloured and dense, with tart, green and meaty flavours on the finish. The length is very good to excellent. Sit down with rare lamb. This label was created and imported by a Toronto couple who live near Reine and Pape (Queen and Pape) in Leslieville. Tasted September 2013 - 89
